What Is an Advocate?
The role of an advocate is to offer independent support to those who feel they are not being heard and to ensure they are taken seriously and that their rights are respected.
An advocate does not represent their own views but amplifies that of the person they are supporting.

Our services are free, voluntary, and confidential for survivors of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and violent crimes. All our services are provided in a mobile capacity in each of the twelve counties we serve.
In troubling times, the best thing you can have is support in your corner. That’s why we’ve carefully trained and selected members of our community who have the greatest wealth of compassion and knowledge to serve the needs of our clients. Too many times after a violent act has been committed, the victim feels lost and unsure of what to do or who to speak to. That’s where we come in.
Our network of specialists and volunteers are standing by every day to offer a supportive, guiding hand. We are active listeners and use a caring approach to ensure the best outcome for the individuals and families we serve.
Sexual Assault Advocacy
Sexual Abuse is a violent crime, based on having power and control over another person. Sexual assault occurs whenever a person is forced or coerced to submit to another person against their will. Sexual violence involves physical force, psychological pressure, and/or exploitation.
Campus Advocacy
Our Campus Advocate specializes in working with victims of physical or sexual assault within the age of 18-35 within the atmosphere of a university or college. She specializes in outreach prevention & education programs specifically working with Greek organizations, Athletic Departments, or other on-campus Staff.
Youth & Child Advocacy
Sexual Assault is any forced or unwanted sexual contact or activity. It may also involve verbal or visible behaviors or any type of pressure designed to coerce or force someone to join in the unwanted sexual contact or activity. It can be perpetrated by a friend, acquaintance, dating partner, stranger, family member, professor, or any person in positions of authority.
Community Education
Community Education- empowering all ages to be aware and active in the prevention of violent activities, demonstrating appropriate behaviors, and nurturing positive influences in the vision to put an end to the violence.
Programs & Support Services
ADVOCACY RESOURCES WE OFFER
- Legal Advocacy: Preparing paperwork, educating you on the justice system, assisting in searching for legal counsel. (*Iowa Legal Aid is also a referral resource we use as we are not attorneys and do not give legal advice).
- Economic Advocacy: Coaching on creating a budget, developing financial independence, and offering financial education support services.
- Medical Advocacy: Acting as a supportive coach alongside you on your medical appointments, explaining your rights, educating you on your options.
- Community Education: Empowering all ages to be aware and active in the prevention of violent activities, demonstrating appropriate behaviors, and nurturing positive influences in the vision to put an end to the violence.

- Access to Counseling or other healing treatments that support recovery from trauma
